Miles Plumlee, Brother of Mason, Commits to Duke

May 2, 2008

Huh? I won’t say much about this because my mother taught me if I don’t have anything good to say, say nay-thing, but I just don’t get this. First, Miles Plumlee iced out Duke’s favorite son and immediate past Associate Head Coach Johnny Dawkins when he decommitted from Stanford upon learning that Dawkins would be Stanford’s next head coach. Now DUKE is taking this kid….FROM JOHNNY?

Second, we’ve already got Mason Plumlee, you know the one who is supposed to be better than his older brother, so why would be duplicate that guy, quite literally, when plenty of people are wondering if Mason is even good enough to contribute to Duke hoops?

Not even Ernie got that one. You know who I’m starting to think isn’t getting any of this at all? This cat:

I said it!

But But wait it gets worse…..Maybe Duke can sign Marshall Plumlee too… After all, he’s still available in the class of 2011. In fact, why don’t we just make their pops, Montgomery Plumlee, Athletic Director and then install moms, Marvita Plumlee as the head of the English Department or something.  In fact, let’s just change the entire school name to University of Plumlee Tech at Durham.

Are you kidding me?

Henderson puts it on Davidson as Duke rolls

December 3, 2007

I didn’t see the game due to an electronics malfunction at the crib. I should be pissed, but how can I be too mad at my cable and tivo boxes after they’ve been so good to me throughout the years.

dukebluedevils.jpg

At any rate, the bottom line is that Duke won, which is really all the matters. Based on his 21 points it seems that Gerald Henderson went out and got his which is always appreciated.

befawnkzvddtckz20071201204235.jpg

You know what else is appreciated, this Duke chick.

dukegirls3.jpg

Yeah, I know, we’ve shown her before, but now I finally got a few more angles and then got some video. Like to here it go:

Hey, it’s pretty clear what she’s working with and she doesn’t mind putting it ahem all out there. I’m not sure if I like her more or less after watching this video though. That diss of Josh McRoberts was definitive and icy. Why do cats hate on Josh so much? I liked McBob…He did his part, it was the cats around him that weren’t coming right.

Anyway, hey girl, I hear you on not camping out like a refugee, I never camped out for a Duke basketball game either. At the same time, you don’t have to be such a yatch about it either. Ultimately, you look good enough that I forgive you. I just wish you’d show a little more cleavage dough. Smart girls rock.

================Update==============

I’d be remiss if I didn’t give this little update. I saw the second airing of the Duke game on ESPNU and I just have to go ahead and give love to that man Greg Paulus.

greg-p.jpg

He played an overall good game, knocked down shots, showed that patented Syracuse bruiser toughness and ultimately was the most valuable player on the floor for Duke. Now, I didn’t like that he went for that steal at the end of the game, because we really didn’t need the ball back with a two possession lead and he could have put them on the line, but you can’t argue with success. Greg came up big and that little fall away jumper at the end? Ballsy. Nice work, now only if he can get those raccoon circles out from under his eyes, he’ll be cool. Homey is looking like Jeff Van Gundy Jr. Jr. out there. Hey Greg, no mercy.

No doubt.

Wisconsin travels to Duke for a slaughter

November 28, 2007

So I waited for that meaningless game between Tech and IU to end. Clearly that joint was all over except for the crying with 5 minutes to go. Predictably, ESPN still didn’t switch to the Duke game. So they tune in and immediately I feel that old school Duke energy coming through the television. It’s kind of indescribable. It’s a carnal, want to destroy the enemy kind of mentality. I guess that’s what 4 years of Wojo starting at PG will do to a man. Anyway, the crowd had it, the players had it and well, I had it. After Paulus’ second three in that little mini run we had early, I was literally standing in front of my 62 inch screen looking like this.

gladiator.jpg

Wow, it’s just great to see Duke really dig into Wisconsin’s collective cheese loving arses. The first half was a ho-asis of scoring and did I or did I not tell you people about my boy from Cali Taylor “I’m the” Kang?

taylor-king.jpg

King was unconscious from three. I mean homey went out onto the floor with a set of brass balls, shooting when he pleased and literally making it rain on them hoes. It was JJ Redick-esque son and I loved it.

jj_redick.jpg

He J’d the Badgers with the set shot 3. He J’d them with the fall away. He picked two balls up off the ground and immediately deposited them in the mouth of the damn thing. I mean, have you ever seen a ball leave a player’s hand and reach the basket so quickly? His joint takes like .5 seconds to get up there. You just can’t keep that kind of scoring production on the bench. Coach K obviously read this blog and now King is getting more minutes. That’s cool, let’s just keep it up, but hey, don’t take away Henderson’s minutes either.

topvwyawufmdiff20070910140537.jpg

We need that cat for his assortment of blocks, dunks, timely 3 balls, mean mugs and rebounds.. Ha.. Now I see why he made Hansbrough red all over. By the way, is Balco T off the canvas yet? Carolina fans acted like Hendo shot the man or something. Stop being a bunch of crying bitches, it’s college basketball, it’s the ACC, it aint intramurals. If yall don’t like it, go play intramurals brother….go play intramurals. Stop all your crying, pull you skirt up and just play ball. Bunch of hicks.. LOL. At any rate, at times during the game G had me on the edge of my seat silently yelling “FINISH HIM” like the Cobra Kai sensai.

End of the day, Duke whooped up on the Badgers.  Per usual, the Big 10 sucks and this ACC – Big 10 Challenge, at 10-0, is getting comical.

Should Taylor King get more time?

November 26, 2007

I read that every single Duke game would be televised this year but I guess not since that Eastern Kentucky v. Duke game was nowhere to be found last night. At any rate, I was happy to peep the box score and see that Taylor King went out there and got his a little bit as Duke smashed Eastern Kentucky 78-43.

He lead all scorers with 27 points coming off the bench in 21 minutes of play going 9-14 from the field and 6-11 from 3. Again, the one thing I love about this dude is that if he’s on the floor, he’s shooting.

200606131520058170502-pfwidec.jpg

There’s no uncertainty or worrying about taking too many shots. This cat knows he’s out there to shoot the rock and shoot it he does. JJ Redick had the same mentality and you just got to love it on this kid, especially since he’s a solid 6 foot 7 inches tall. Clearly we’re loaded at the wing, so this isn’t the best squad for TK to show what he can do and there are definitely some questions about his defense and athleticism, but I like it when, at a minimum, a player scores the ball when he’s supposed to.

I grow tired of these cats who need to get hot to make things happen out there. Taylor stays hot and gives Duke something a bit different than the rest of our wing players. So I ask you, should Taylor get more burn this year once the competition picks up? I think he should at least be given a chance. This dude has big impact ability with that three ball. I also like that ‘special skill’ flow since at times our offense looks a bit lacking in the know your roles department. I’ll tell you this, if he does get some more tick, he’s going to have to upgrade his pimp gear…

taylor-king-pimped-out.jpg

That black on black crime isn’t working and those fisher price, my first dress shoes kicks he’s rocking, terrible. Somebody get this dude some hush money and a magic shoe kit or something! Ha Just playing (sort of)… at least I didn’t talk about that kinte cloth, Maryland Terp alternate jersey looking tie piece. It may not be a raspbery beret, but it’s definitely the kind you find at a second hand store. Out.

Go Duke.

Duke puts that thang on Illinois

Duke started relatively slowly. It seemed like it took them a while to get into the flow of the game. I think that was due in part to Illinois’ decision to neutralize Kyle Singler by putting the more athletic, but still 6 foot 8 inch Randle on him. That worked and Singler shot a modest 3 for 6 from the field.
randle-on-singler.jpg

But let me tell you, Duke realized that our athletic guys, DeMarcus and G. Hendo, could get into the lane basically whenever they wanted, the flood gates opened up. It all started with DeMarcus really manning up as he added a little finesse to his power game. It paid dividends. Markie was 6 for 8 from the field for 16 points. G, well G just went off.

kctddelqmkjzjnm20071016192600.jpg

Dude poured in 23, but more importantly, he showed diversity in his game. He showed a solid mid range game, he sent the pill home with a few dunks, he even knocked down a couple threes.

vmusqurpfpofemp20071102015153.jpg

Add to it a few solid rebounds and some defensive plays and you just gotta love what you’re seeing from G Henderson. Dude is finally putting it all together and it’s just a beautiful sight to see. I love seeing DeMarcus, Singler and Hendo in the game together. It just gives us so many ways to score. Add in an aggressive Greg Paulus who looks for his shot and timely plays from Jon Scheyer coming off the bench and you really have something with this team.

You also have to notice and appreciate how Coach K is using Zoubek so much early. No question, use the dude and develop him while you can. But dammit, has that cat ever used the weight room?

p1_owens.jpg

“Always bend at the knees”

I don’t need him to be as light on his feet as sugar ray (and I’m talking about the lead singer of that horrible band) but I do need him to be able to grab a rebound that hits him di-rec-it-tally in his hands. I do need him to jump off the ground more than 2 inches and I do need him to show some heart. It’s still early, but homey needs to put that Patty LaBelle, I’ve got a new attitude, followed by some 50, Onyx, hell, Metallica so we can jump start that man’s ticker.

wizdorthliontinscare.jpg

Now I aint saying he’s like these nillas, but
he aint doing much out there killa

Tomorrow is a big test in Marquette. Hot guard play and real athletes in the post. They play an up tempo brand of ball and they’re aren’t afraid to mix it up.  Oh and yeah, they blew out Oklahoma State.

Speaking of not being afraid, I liked how Singler really gave that fool a stern look when he tried to buck up to him after that hard foul. What’s wrong with these studio gangster clowns who want to fight whenever someone messes with their styled weaves….by the way, when will the Iverson cornrows go out of style? I’ve always thought they looked a little soft, but at this point, they’re looking like the flattop did circa 1995….it just has to go. Anyway, Singler showed some heart, showed he’s not afraid, hell, showed he might whoop some ass.. I like it.  As for that “tough kid” from IL, dude, it’s basketball.  If you don’t want anyone to touch you, go back to your knitting class.  That’s how you’re eligible anyway, right?

Go Duke.

Duke Hoops gets a recruit

September 27, 2007

It was just announced that Duke got a side stone (as opposed to a crown jewel) for their 2008 recruiting class. Olek Czyz, a 6 foot, 7 inch senior power forward from Poland (now balling in Reno, NV) gave his commitment to Coach K and his staff of Wednesday of this week.

Anybody who knows anything about Duke Basketball knows how crucial it is for Duke to land a hot class for the coming year so they can ran along side Scheyer, Henderson, Thomas, King, Nolan Smith, and Singler to make a run at a National Championship in two years. Olek Czyz, while having no real vowels in his name, might be a good complimentary player for that cause, but let’s be clear: WE NEED ELLIOT WILLIAMS & GREG MONROE!!!

Gotta like the look and feel of a young El in a Duke uniform.

With that said, welcome young Olek!!! I trust you’ll do your Polish lineage proud. Word on the street is you’ve got crazy ups (40 inch vertical) and love to dunk it around the cup. I like that.

(O is looking kinda swole in this shot, I feel you player)

Not since the Polish Power, Ivan Putski came on the scene have I been more supportive of an Ex-Eastern Blocker like yourself.

I’m sure that Polish connection you have with Michael K didn’t hurt either. At any rate, you are now a part of a movement and we’ll be loyal to you as we are all Duke Basketball players and alums. With that said, do me a favor, prime up homey.
